Bedford Area Educational Foundation Newsletter – December 2009 Edition Happy Holidays The Bedford Area Educational Foundation would like to extend a warm holiday greeting to all of its supporters. We appreciate all the volunteers who helped organize our two fundraising events this year and the many generous donors that made these events successful. The Foundation awarded $16,000 to teachers from January through December of 2009. The next application deadline is January 4th and we already have several requests. It is not too late to make a donation for 2009! A donation to the Foundation would be a great way to honor a special teacher and letters of recognition will be sent to those teachers. Please contact Michele Shaffer at 540-587-8744 if you would like to make a contribution before year end. Please remember the Foundation as you prepare budget plans for 2010. 2009 Teacher Awards Judy Emanuel Forest Elementary Cuisenaire Rods $1180 Kelly Steele Otter River Elementary Document Camera LCD Cart $1000 Dianne Lawrence Bedford Primary Tumbling Mats $360 Newcomb, Robertson Goodview Elementary Literacy Bags $892 Witt, Wilson Big Island Elementary Leveled Readers $1200 Melissa Popowitch Goodview Elementary Phonics Listening Center $436 Anita Combs Big Island Elementary Hands On Equations $733 Barbara Pennington Goodview Elementary Comprehension Kits $600 Julie Kricheldorf Forest Middle Document Camera $333 Lauren Johnson Otter River Elementary Smartboard $1000 Patricia Baker Big Island Elementary Incubator & Brooder Pack $600 Shannon Spirko Goodview Elementary Phonics Listening Center $550 Debra Moore Stewartsville Elementary LCD Projector $499 Sandra Parece Thomas Jefferson Flip Cameras $750 Mark Day Liberty High School LCD Projector (Teacher of Year) $500 Carrie Perry Goodview Elementary Smartboard/Projector $1600 Kathleen Crock Bedford Elementary Science Kits (Teacher of Year) $566 Shannon Thomas Staunton River High Document Camera $333 Melody Hirsch Goodview Elementary Phonics Read Along $553 Reamey & Webb Staunton River/ JF High AP Music Theory CDs $484 Melissa Popowitch Goodview Elementary Learning Stations $412 Annette Craighead Stewartsville Elementary Incubator $200 LesliePadgett Liberty High Art Technology $700 Dina Linkenhoker Staunton River Middle USA Magazine $160 Brown&Kennedy Thaxton Elementary History Museum Outreach $300

2009-2010
“BE” Campaign Since 2002, 112 applications have been funded, and many more are being submitted for consideration. The number of requests continues to rise as teachers from the 21 schools in the Bedford area become more familiar with the process. BE is continuing its fundraising efforts to make sure the necessary resources will be available when they are needed. In achieving our mission of supporting the highest quality public education in the Bedford area, it is imperative that we develop a strong link between the community and public education. To reach our goal, we need your help. Nearly 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the Endowed or Current Programs fund. Thank you for your donation and for helping us make this Fund Drive a success! The Bedford Area Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions are confidential but can become newsworthy if approved by the donor. Please ask your employer if your company participates in matching gifts from employees to non-profit organizations. If your employer does participate, please ask them to consider a matching gift to the Foundation. |
